The act of suicide has come to the forefront these days as two high profile celebrities decided to take their own lives by hanging. Fashion icon Kate Spade and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, two people who seemed to have very privileged lives and should have been very happy, by the world’s standards, but instead decided to end it all.
I have such disgust in sharing with you the headline and portions of this article below because it is not only nauseatingly shocking but should be alarming to us all. We cannot just ignore it and chalk it up to inconsequential foolishness. Is this a sign of how far have we already fallen and will continue to fall as a nation?
The unborn lost their right-to-life in Ireland last week. This is so strange and sad since Ireland has been a stronghold of the conservative Roman Catholic Church for a long time. According to official government statistics collected during the 2002 census, the religious affiliation of the population is 88.4 percent Roman Catholic, 2.9 percent Church of Ireland (Anglican), 0.52 percent Presbyterian, 0.25 percent Methodist, 0.49 percent Muslim, and less than 0.1 percent Jewish. The statistics clearly show the predominant religion in the Republic of Ireland is Christianity, with the largest church being the Roman Catholic Church, which is strongly pro-life. So, what happened?
On the website, History.com, we find an apparently simple and succinct description and definition about Memorial Day that says, “Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. This year, Memorial Day 2018 is on Monday, May 28. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.”
It is with great sadness that I have watched California, my home state, where I was born, raised, educated and launched into the world in adulthood, be transformed into one of the most liberal states in America. Not only have I seen California drift farther and farther away from God but also become very antagonistic and aggressive against God and Biblical Christianity as a whole.
It is accurate to say that the Christian churches in America are in trouble. For several decades, a decline of church attendance in most of the fundamental Christian denominations has been reported. Most of the statistics tell us that nearly 50% of Americans have no church home. Many of the mainline churches have seen this drastic decline in their membership and attendance for varied reasons, which is why one particular reason cannot be signaled out as being the reason.
